Well dog my cats, what a year it's been.
In January we flew to Australia with two shows for their Aussie premiers, Strictly Barking and Put the Kettle On, starting with a month in Perth for Fringe World. We were delighted that both shows walked away with awards, a Critics Choice Award for both shows, the weeklt best comedy show for Strictly Barking with the show also winning the Overall Children's Event 2023 for the fringe.
Straight after Fringe World, we headed to South Australia for the Adelaide Fringe Festival where both shows had a great reception. Put the Kettle On picked up a Weekly Comedy Award as well! After Adelaide, we had a busman's holiday in Melbourne, picking up a few slots in the Melbourne Comedy Festival and getting a feel for the festival and city.
Who needs sleep? In April, instead of performing we buckled down and created two new solo shows, Clown Radio, performed by Ollie, and Sailing By, performed by Jon. Both shows premiered at Prague Fringe in May as work-in-progress pieces, and were performed alongside the sell-out Strictly Barking. The winning streak continued as Strictly Barking and Sailing By were jointly awarded the Catania Off Award, while Sailing By also scooped up the Brian's Life Comedy Award (see, Steve? There's a reason it's our favourite fringe!).
After a month in Avignon with The Latebloomers, it was all systems go for a three week run at Edinburgh Festival Fringe with Strictly Barking at Guilded Balloon. We had an amazing run with brilliant, huge audiences. The show was awarded four stars by The List, as well as five stars from Edinburgh Festivals for Kids. To top it off, the show was the only children's show nominated for an Off Fest Award from Off West End. Not bad, eh?
Did someone say 'rest'? Not us! After Edinburgh it was straight to Gothenburg Fringe with Strictly Barking and Clown Radio, followed by Colchester Fringe with Sailing By, Clown Radio and Strictly Barking. Both fringes are fairly new and were great places to be, filled with amazing performers from around the globe. At Colchester Fringe, Strictly Barking won yet another award and was chosen as the National Pick of the Fringe!
Sailing By sailed (get it?) to Italy straight after Colchester for Catania Off Fringe Festival. To finish off the year, Jon managed to break his foot mid-show but - ever the professional - continued the show! Well, it couldn't be a perfect year, could it?
We're so very grateful to everyone who came to see our shows this year, we hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did! Special thanks to the techies, festival teams, our producer Ellen Fife-Nilsson and to our friends and family for helping out when we needed it.
There are a lot of exciting things happening in 2024, so watch this space... Until then - stay cool, yeah?
