Phew! If you've ever gone to Edinburgh Fringe, even as an audience member, you know how busy it can be!
This year we took not one, but TWO shows up - Old Man at Summerhall and the official premier of MIME CLUB at Gilded Balloon. For Jon's solo performances (co-created and directed by Ollie) there was a great audience and the show was very well received. It also received a great four star review in ThreeWeeks and some lovely words in The Scotsman too. It's been great to see how Old Man has different meanings for different audiences - the themes of loss and loneliness always seem to have different reactions from the audiences that reflects each person's unique experiences with the subjects. But it's also brilliant to see which jokes get the most laughs in each performance as well!
We did a slightly longer run of MIME CLUB at Gilded Balloon - and it was EXHAUSTING but so much fun! It's a really physical show that uses all kinds of clowning and mime, as well as singing and word-play - it keeps the audience on its toes for sure. We got great feedback from the audience - including people who came to see it more than once! It's really wonderful knowing that we've created a show that makes people laugh like that. MIME CLUB definitely offers people a break from the seriousness of reality (and from the madness that is Edinburgh Fringe as well!).
One of the great things that really made a difference to our Fringe experience this year was receiving a Keep It Fringe grant from the Edinburgh Fringe Society. Knowing we had some funding to cover a few costs really made a difference to what we could achieve. Sadly touring can be quite expensive and so knowing that the Society believed in the show enough to help us out financially made a massive positive impact to us, and gave us a little ego boost as well!
A massive thank you to the teams at Summerhall and Gilded Balloon - and to the Edinburgh Fringe team and the Society! Also a big thank you to Caitlin Campbell for her input and for doing the tech for Old Man, cheers as well to Tom Winston doing all things technical for MIME CLUB and finally to our producer and marketing manager extraordinaire Ellen Fife-Nilsson, for all of the organising, promotion and for securing the Keep It Fringe Funding for us.
This Autumn, we will be touring a lot with our other company, The Lateblooomers, around various places in France and will also be bringing our hit kids show Strictly Barking to Ireland for Kilkenny's annual kids festival Bookville! Tickets available now.
We'll keep you up to date with news as and when we can - until next time, keep laughing!
